847 and 846 Naval Air Squadrons from the Commando Helicopter Force have been working with elements from 42 Commando and 29 Commando Royal Artillery in find and interdiction missions.
The training focused on Vehicle Interdiction: a mission that involved using the speed and agility of Commando Wildcat helicopters to stop vehicles to then allow the Commando Merlin Mk4 to deliver Commandos onto the objective to detain and extract High Value Targets from inside a vehicle.
Commando Wildcat helicopters from 847 Naval Air Squadron tracked, and located rapidly moving suspect vehicles, stopping them using their .50 caliber guns or onboard snipers. Nearby and waiting Commando Merlin Mk4 helicopters of 846 Naval Air Squadrons then inserted Marines from 42 Commando onto the target to established a cordon, and to secure the immediate area prior to the rapid extraction of targeted suspects.
