The Australian Border Force has engaged Microflite to wet-lease twoH145s for operations in Australia's North.

Through the 12 month contract is valued at $12.8 million and Microflite will provided the ABF with an aircraft and pilot combination in both Darwin and Broome.

Both aircraft will be primarily be used as part of Operation LEEDSTRUM, which is focused on preventing Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing in the Kimberley Marine Park. They will also be employed in support of Operation Sovereign Borders.

“The H145 gives us the ability to cover a vast amount of distance in a shorter period of time, and be able to land in otherwise inaccessible areas without requiring an airstrip," said ABF Commissioner Michael Outram during a visit to Broome.

“Importantly, the helicopter will also assist with surveillance patrols during the wet season when land patrols can be restricted due to flooding and other dangerous conditions."

The newly leased capability is part of the ABF's increased presence in the region to protect the Australian border and the vast Kimberley Marine Park from illegal foreign fishers, through Operation LEEDSTRUM.

"This helicopter allows us to reach remote communities quickly and cover vast distances in shorter periods," said Commissioner Outram. "It's crucial for surveillance during the wet season when land patrols are restricted."
