Eye In The Sky is an affordable fully certified Cockpit Video Recorder that can integrate into SMS, help close occurrences, solve maintenance anomalies, improve pilot skills, review training flights and route checks.
Patterson Distributors Limited are pleased to announce the Eye In The Sky unit has been approved by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Working with the Internation Validation Branch under the bilateral agreement with New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the cockpit video recorder has been awarded an Approved Model List (AML) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) certificate that can used for multiple helicopter types.
The small yet powerful device is an all-in-one unit consisting of a forward facing HD camera mounted within the aircraft cabin, the device records a 160 degree HD image of the pilot control inputs, the view out the front window and importantly, flight data captured from the instrument cluster.
It also records cockpit ambient noise, intercom and radio transmissions and GNSS data recording aircraft ground speed, altitude, heading and position. User friendly Eye In the Sky software allows easy playback and review of the footage.
Louisa (Choppy) Patterson, the product developer, aviation veteran and New Zealand based air tour operator, is “delighted that the hard work of all involved has brought the vision of this safety device to a certified reality today. She commends her Eye In The Sky crew, the local manufacturers, the Salus Part 148 Certification team and the Aviation Authorities in both countries ”
Louisa says - “Eye In The Sky helps raise the overall aviation safety bar, close occurrences, answer intermittent engineering faults, improve training and provide answers in the event of an accident.”
She goes on to say that “ despite the perseverance required for the duration of the certification process, it is been worthwhile and is a commendation to the calibre of the device. Gaining certification will help each and every operator wanting to use our device worldwide.”
All data is securely stored on an SD card within a tamper proof housing, capturing 22 hours of the aircrafts latest video, audio and flight data.
There is also a built in back up battery which allows recording to continue for up to 2 minutes and is thus useful if there is an occurrence in the event of an electrical failure or after shutdown whilst blades are still turning.
The Eye In The Sky units are in stock and ready for immediate dispatch with the FAA STC certification.
